It seems that the writer belabored some points and had a habit of going into too much detail, which slowed the story down. (But that just may have been my not wanting to face what I was actually consuming. It is multi-layered and complex, especially for those trying to solve the case. Although she is not new to cooking/baking, I figured there might be some things in here to help her when she doesn't have her mom or myself to reach.
