. So I sat down near her and started to read it out loud. This time it is the attorney she and her husband, Michael, hired to oversee the adoption of a child they both desperately want. He looks at plot, characterisation and context and makes some extremely funny and witty comments. I took a chance on the whole series instead of just getting the first book. What is so cool about this book is its simplicity. My 9 year old and I read this together. Author Pierre Bayard is a French literature teacher, and has often been in the position of having to talk about books he didn’t read, but only read about. It has clean line drawings of die cuts and folds with straightforward instructions marked by few arrows and numbers. The illustrations truly enhance the authors narrative, and help the readers engage in the story. Critics that decried this story as being "grim and gritty for the sake of grim and gritty" or "disrespectful" to the character are also missing the mark. Or, should I just list out a series of questions I asked myself before I started this review and let that be the sum of why I liked it.
